All generic domain extensions and certain country-code ones support a security lock functionality whose purpose is to stop unauthorized transfers of active domain names. Many domain name registry operators that oversee country-code Top-Level Domains that don’t support this feature are in the process of adopting it for greater safety and for the convenience of the domain owners. A domain can be transferred only if it is unlocked and only a person who has been given access to the account with the current registrar can achieve that. New domain names are registered with the lock option enabled intentionally, so as to hinder any unapproved transfer attempts. The lock option is among the security measures for controlling the transfer of existing domains between domain name registrars that have been adopted over the years.
